Geneva May 13th 2018 Antiquorum Sale of Important modern and vintage timepieces
Despite the strong presence of the Asian market – one third of the total bidders, the biggest collectors winning the most important timepieces were Europeans.
Several lots marked the day, like the breathtaking Skymoon Tourbillon Patek Philippe with Ref. 5002 [Lot 200], which was sold brand new from the original owner for CHF 1’049’000.
The Lifesaver’s Rolex GMT with Ref.6542 [Lot 607] in spectacular condition reached CHF 329’000. In other words, tripling its lower estimate. “My honor and absolute pleasure to be presenting this extremely rare timepiece today” said Mr Julian Schaerer, managing director, watch expert and auctioneer, while opening the bidding for it. Nevertheless, this wasn’t the only lot going for a lot higher than its estimate. The Chiming Jump Hour Patek Philippe with Ref.5275P made for the 175th anniversary, ended up making four times its lower estimate selling for CHF 377’000.
One of the biggest attractions of the sale, was the Daytona section, in which several rare pieces of the iconic Rolex model, were put together to the enjoyment of international collectors. The John Player Special Rolex with Ref. 6241 was definitely the highlight of the Daytona section, making almost the double of its bottom estimate selling for CHF 569’000.
“A very successful day” stated Mr Romain Rea, CEO of Antiquorum “The day was full of pleasant surprises”, added Mr Giulio De Lucia. When asked about what the Antiquorum difference is compared to its competitors, Mr Rea referred to the history and openness of the company: “Our company is based on our passion for horology. The market knows how multifaceted we are. We accept to represent anything that has to do with our passion. Above all, what makes us stand out is our roots. Horology is our roots, which have led us in the past and will lead us in the future to thrive”.
Antiquorum will be coming together with Monaco Legend on the 17-18-19 July 2018, for a very special sale. It will not only include high end jewels and timepieces, but also for the first time globally a combined sale of cars and watches. This will be a celebration of the 55th anniversary of two iconic products of the 20th century: the Daytona Rolex and the 911 Porsche. The icing on the cake? A 911 made by the sculptor Richard Orlinski, gifted to go under the hammer for Princess Charlene of Monaco charity works
